About Glow Worms

Gold Coast Day Trip

Mount Tamborine at the heart of the Gold Coast Hinterland is a beautiful spot for kids, young people, and families alike. There are plenty of walking tracks, cafes, restaurants, wineries and other attractions to keep you busy for days on end.

To help you get the most out of the Gold Coast Hinterland, we’ve put together a day trip itinerary so you can enjoy the best of the Tamborine area in one day!

Starting out

Head north on the Pacific Motorway towards Brisbane and take the Mount Tamborine exit after you’ve past Dreamworld. This scenic route will take you through an area of acreage properties and up the windy mountain road through Tamborine Village and up to Eagle Heights. It can be a bit of a slow climb up through the rainforest but the scenery alone is well worth it.

Eagle Heights

The quiet township of Eagle Heights is a beautiful spot to stop and take a walk down the street, visit the local cafes and shops or even watch the cheese-making at Witches Chase Cheese. There are plenty of interesting stores to explore including a cuckoo clock maker, tea house, fudge maker and a marketplace.

Cedar Creek Estate

After you’ve had a good shop and a bite to eat head on over to Cedar Creek Estate on Hartley Road in North Tamborine. Here you’ll find some wonderful local wines to taste, as well as some Ports, Liqueur Muscat and a range of dessert wines. There’s always something good on the restaurant menu so you can sit and enjoy your favourite wine with a cheese plate, a light snack or a hearty meal.

There’s also an art gallery at the winery displaying artworks by Arthur Hamblin, a prominent artist of Australian outback scenes depicted in oil and watercolour.

Glow Worm Caves

Cedar Creek Estate is also home to the spectacular Tamborine Mountain Glow Worm Caves. These purpose-built caves are home to thousands of glowing glow worms. The tour will take you through an introduction into these unique worms and then a walk-through of the magical cave where their lights cover the cave walls. Spots for each tour are limited so make sure you book a ticket!
